Keith Wells" Award Land Navigation Award Presented National Executive Director Makes Presentation Recently, Robert Donaghue, national Executive Director, attended The Basic School graduation aboard MCB Quantico, VA to present the “Maj Keith Wells” Land Navigation Award. The recipient of this award was 2Lt. William Hyer from Bridgehampton, NY. The award is named in honor of 1Lt. Keith Wells, who led the first platoon to plant a flag on top of Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima. For his efforts 1Lt. Wells was presented the Navy Cross, the second highest honor for valor. To his final days, he would tell you, “…my platoon was the highest decorated platoon in Marine Corps history.” (Read the full story on Keith here. Bill is a 2023 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he majored in Cyber Operations. He is the son of Ms. Andrea Hyer who also resides in Bridgehampton. Following graduation, he will report to Infantry Officer Training on board MCB Quantico. Upon this graduation, he will be receive his fleet assignment. Congratulations Bill.
