The San Diego Chapter is active! LtCol Stan Smith, President of the "H.M. Smith" Chapter, recently attended the Change-of-Command ceremony of the USS William P. Lawrence. Stan is seen here with the outgoing Commanding Officer Captain Jana Vavassuer. Also pictured is her daughter Rebecca.

The Lawrence just returned from a Persian Gulf tour where she was slated to be the main assault ship pending a resolution of the use of chemical weapons warfare aspects of the Syrian war. Although the Captain and her brave crew sustained casualties on this mission, their presence and the role they played augmented very well to the successful diplomatic resolution of this crises.

Keep up the great work San Diego!! The National HQ has supported the H. M. Smith Chapter in the past in its efforts of supporting Marine-Navy and families friendship through donations to the Marine "ready room" aboard the USS Midway museum. Keep attacking San Diego, keep attacking

OORAH TO OUR SAN DIEGO CHAPTER! Three hundred yards from one of the fireworks barges, a picket boat full of Marines -- MCRA members -- took up watch to keep spectator vessels at a safe distance. Over half a million San Diegans watched this year's show -- biggest on the West coast! MCRA's H.M.Smith chapter represented the boat crew, as it has for several years past. The Chapter is planning a meeting get together for later this Fall at the MCRD O'Club, now called the "Bayview". That's been traditional meeting place since the 1940's and the National President is expected to fly out and attend!
