($19.65)
NOTE: 1) The increase of $11,125.00 in membership dues in 2010 can be attributed to the develpoment of a new
database allowing the Association to send out renewal notices. Offsetting this increase in revenue was an increase
of $7,294.00 in the cost of printing and postage associated with sending out the renewal notices.
2) In this era of increasing electronic communication it should be obvious that the use of e-mail is a far more
economical method to send notices to members, unfortunately, we only have 1,105 valid e-mail addresses in our
database of over 5,700. PLEASE SEND A VALID e-MAIL ADDRESS TO hqs@usmcra.org if you haven't received an e-mail
notice from the Association. From the financial reports above it is obvious that e-mail saves us thousands of dollars.
2011 Golf Tournament
Your Board of Directors has decided to change the purpose of the Annual Golf Tournament. In the past
the outing gave corporate sponsors a chance to enjoy informal contact with senior Marines away from
the business of contracting for various needs of the Corps. This year the Tournament will be conducted
as a charity event for the benefit of the Corps' Wounded Warrior Regiment. In keeping with the Marine
Corps Tradition of taking care of our own, the Wounded Warrior Regiment was formed to assist our brave
men and women.
The Mission: "The Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment provides and facilitates non-medical care to
combat and non-combat Wounded, Ill, and Injured (WII) Marines, and Sailors attached to or in direct
support of Marine units, and their family members in order to assist them as they return to duty or
transition to civilian life. The WWR assists active, reserve and veteran Marines. The Regimental
Headquarters element, located in Quantico, VA, commands the operations of two Wounded Warrior Battalions
located at Camp Pendleton, California and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and multiple detachments in
locations around the globe."
Naturally it would be impossible for our entire membership to attend the tournament, however, that does
not mean that you cannot participate in the event. We welcome donations from anyone anywhere in the world.
Make your check payable to the Marine Corps Reserve Association, write "Wounded Warrior Regt" in the memo
line and mail it to:

WANTED -- WW II Marine Tankers
The Association has been contacted by a research representative for the United Stated Military Channel.
They are seeking first-person accounts to bring tank battles of the past to life using CGI annimation.
The current research involves the use of tanks in the Pacific theater. The planned focus will be on tank
battles from August 1942 to June 1945, including actions on Guadalcanal such as Henderson Field, Edson's
Ridge, and the Matanikan River during 1942; Tarawa during November 1943; Saipan during June 1944; Tinian
during July 1944; Peleliu during September 1944; Iwo Jima during early 1945; and Okinawa during April
through June 1945.
The Military Channel researchers are looking for Marine Veterans who were in tank crews in the Pacific during
the war and would be willing to share experiences. They are particularly interested in veterans from the 4th
Tank Battalion and particularly veterans of Saipan and Iwo Jima.
If you are intested in passing on the real history of Marine tankers during WW II to future generations,
please contact Heather Kohlmann at hkohlmann@breakthroughentertainmant.com or call (416) 366-6588 X 332.
The Jerabek Challenge Run
Registration is now open!
Sign up now for the
Challenge!
NEW!!! The Jerabek Challenge taking place at Four Season Park in Hobart on Saturday, August 13th will
offer a new twist this year. Runners participating in the 4-mile run will have the option of joining the
"Boot Brigade." This will be a challenge to run the event in ankle high boots (hiking boots, hunting boots,
military boots, etc., no basketball shoes). Those who complete the entire 4 mile race as part of the Boot
Brigade will receive a military dog tag necklace with the inscription "2011 Jerabek Challenge Boot
Brigade." The tags will be collectible and repeat participants are encouraged to add them to the bead
chain necklace they receive and run with them each year. The slogan for the Boot Brigade will be "Earn
Your Dog Tag." For more information, go to The
Jerabek Challenge Website
Ryan Jerabek, an 18 year old Hobart native had served our Nation in the United States Marine Corps with
Honor, Courage and Commitment. Ryan was assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, 2nd Battalion,
4th Regiment, ECHO Co. Weapons Platoon. (2/4 Second to None) He gave his life for the cause of Freedom
on 6 April, 2004 in Ramadi, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ryan was awarded the Bronze Star with
Combat V for extraordinary heroism. He also received the Purple Heart. This event is planned to take
place on the roads that Ryan ran to prepare himself for his service in the Marine Corps.
The intention of this non-profit event is to honor and thank our veterans, all of our servicemen and
women, and to Honor and Remember our Fallen Heroes.
The inspiration and driving force behind this event came from Ryan himself. In his senior year at Pulaski
High School, he gave a speech about the Marine Corps. At the end of the speech, he implored his fellow
students with the following:
"I’d like to ask of you to thank those who fought and are fighting in the battles to keep this country
at the pinnacle of Freedom."

ASSOCIATION BUSINESS
Your Association Board of Directors has been conducting its regular conference calls to take care of
Association business. The main item on the agenda lately has been the upcoming golf tournament for the
Wounded Warrior Regiment. It appears our tournament has created quite a stir at Quantico, so hopefully
we should have a very good turnout.
The second item has been the awards of swords and KBars for the upcoming Reserve SNCO/NCO graduations.
These are newly created awards to recognize the enlisted members of the Marine Corps Reserve for
excellence. SgtMaj Joe Staudt will be attending the first graduation scheduled for July 19 and SgtMaj
Donnie Boyer indicated that he would be available for the August presentation.
