MCRA was originally founded on 10 November 1926 as the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association and was a major proponent of the
Marine Corps as it exists today. When President Truman attempted to reduce the Marine Corps to a ceremonial outfit at the end of the World War II, it was
the Marine Corps Reserve Officers Association, which rallied thousands of supporters nationwide, in particular those in Congress, to stop the attempt to eliminate
the Marine Corps. Subsequent legislation assured such an attempt would not happen again (a previous attempt was made in 1930). In 2003 the oganization's name
was changed to The Marine Corps Reserve Association and membership was opened to Enlisted Marines.
