MCRA AWARDS PROGRAM The Marine Corps Reserve Association (MCRA) presents awards to outstanding Marine Corps Reserve and Marine Corps-oriented units, and individual Marines-Active and Reserve. The awards include trophies, plaques, presentation pieces, and certificates. Individual MCRA Chapters also make award presentations in their local communities. Presentations should be made at an appropriate time and in such a manner to insure proper recognition and publicity for the unit, chapter, or individual. Every effort should be made to make such presentations at the National Military Conference.
Individual Awards
NON SIBI, SED PATRIAE (Individual) The highest award that is presented by the MCRA. An engraved plaque is awarded to truly outstanding member(s) of the U.S. Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, and civilians who have demonstrated the finest qualities of leadership, dedication, and support of the Marine Corps Reserve. Nomination Procedure: National officers of MCRA may recommend the awarding of the Non Sibi, Sed Patriae certificate based upon information and experiences acquired by the National President and Secretary. Criteria for Selection: Approval of the Nominee's chapter is essential. Criteria includes special service to include but not be limited to publicity, legislation, effort, welfare support, organizational promotion, or service resulting in the betterment of morale, material, Reserve benefits, or specific improvement and strengthening of the Marine Corps Reserve. Selected By: The MCRA Board of Directors will review the nominations for the Non Sibi, Sed Patriae certificate at a scheduled meeting and vote on its presentation. In the event that the timing requires action prior to the scheduled meeting, the President may act for the Board and approve the presentation of the award. This action must be reported at the next Board of Directors Meeting. Presented By: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of MCRA at the Chairman's Luncheon or the Guest of Honor at the Grand Banquet at the National Military Conference.
Meritorious Achievement Award An engraved plaque or certificate signed by the President of MCRA with an official MCRA Seal. Presented to deserving individuals who have provided significant support of the Marine Corps and the Association Nomination Procedure: The Board of Directors of MCRA may recommend the awarding of the Meritorious Achievement Award based upon information and experience acquired from or associated with the nominee. Criteria for Selection: Particularly worthwhile service that has assisted the operations and performances of the Association. The Meritorious Award is to be presented when the performance of the nominee is truly outstanding and worthy of recognition. Selected By: The Board of Directors of MCRA will review nominations for the Meritorious Achievement Award at a scheduled meeting of the Council and vote on its presentation. Presented By: The President of MCRA at the President's Luncheon at the National Military Conference.
President's Gavel A 9" X 12" walnut plaque containing a removable gavel and a 3 1/2 " X 5 1/2 " brass plate with the name of the outgoing President of the MCRA and the year(s) of service as President. Criteria for Selection: Outgoing President of MCRA Presented By: The newly elected President of MCRA at the President's Luncheon at the National Military Conference.
Unit Awards General Hugh W. Hardy Award Engraved Plaque awarded to the best 4th Marine Force Reserve asset. Nomination Procedure: Each Inspector-Instructor is requested to submit a nomination by 1 March to the Commanding General, MARFORRES. The CG, MARFORRES will select the outstanding unit and shall forward the recommendation to the President of MCRA by 1 April. Criteria for Selection: Instructions promulgated by MCO 1650R.37 Selected By: CG, MARFORRES Presented By: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MCRA at the Chairman's Luncheon at the National Military Conference to the MARFORRES representative in attendance.
General Melvin J Maas Award Engraved plaque awarded to the best 4th Marine Division unit. Nomination Procedure: Each Regimental Commander is requested to submit a nomination by 1 February to the Commanding General, 4th MarDiv. The CG, 4thMarDiv will select the outstanding unit and provide details to the CG, MARFORRES by 1 March each year. If the CG, MARFORRES concurs with the selection he shall forward the recommendation to the President of MCRA by 1 April. Criteria for Selection: CG, MARFORRES in coordination with the Commanding General, 4th Mar Div (REIN), FMF. Presented By: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MCRA at the Chairman's Luncheon at the National Military Conference to the 4th MarDiv representative in attendance.
General Karl S. Day Award Engraved plaque awarded to the best 4th Marine Aircraft Wing unit. Nomination Procedure: Each Commander is requested to submit a nomination by 1 February to the Commanding General, 4th MAW. The CG, 4thMAW will select the outstanding unit and provide details to the CG, MARFORRES by 1 March each year. If the CG, MARFORRES concurs with the selection he shall forward the recommendation to the President of MCRA by 1 April. Selected By: CG, MARFORRES in coordination with the Commanding General, 4th MAW, FMF. General Arthur B. Hanson Award Engraved plaque awarded to the best 4th Force Service Support Group unit. Nomination Procedure: Each 4th FSSG Inspector/Instructor shall submit nominations for the outstanding 4th FSSG unit by 1 February to the Commanding General, 4th FSSG. The CG, 4th FSSG will select the outstanding unit and provide details to the CG, MARFORRES by 1 March each year. If the CG, MARFORRES concurs with the selection, he shall so indicate by providing the name of the unit to the President of MCRA by 1 April. Selected By: CG, MARFORRES in coordination with the CG, 4th FSSG. Presented By: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MCRA at the Chairman's Luncheon at the national Military Conference to the 4th FSSG representative in attendance.
Major General Mitchell J. Waters Award Engraved plaque to the best Mobilization Training Unit. Nomination Procedure: Each MTU OIC shall submit nominations for the outstanding MTU by 1 August to the their respective Marine Corps District Headquarters. A board representing members from each Marine Corps district will convene at MCRSC between August and September to determine and recommend the subject award. The board will forward their detailed recommendation to the CG, MCRSC. If the CG, MCRSC concurs with the selection, he shall so indicate by providing the name of the unit to the President of the MCRA by 1 October. Selected By: CG, MCSRC. Presented By: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MCRA at the Chairman's Luncheon at the national Military Conference to the MTU representative in attendance.
The MCRA MCJROTC Trophy A 9" EGA on an engraved base is awarded to the outstanding Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (MCJROTC) in each Marine Corps District. Nomination Procedure: Each District Director is requested to submit the nomination of the best MCJROTC unit within the District for the year to the Director for Training and Education. The Director will select the outstanding MCJROTC unit in the Country and upon selection, will notify the President of the MCRA. Criteria for Selection: The recommendation of the District Director, the unit's overall performance and an evaluation of the unit will be provided to the Director for T&E. Selected By: The Director for Training and Education based upon the recommendations of the Marine Corps District Director. Presented By: MCRA and USMC representatives at an appropriate ceremony at the selected high school.
CHAPTER AWARDS
NON SIBI, SED PATRIAE (Chapter) For constant devotion to the interests of National Defense, the United States Marine Corps, and the Marine Corps Reserve. Awarded to truly outstanding member(s) of the U.S. Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, and civilians who have demonstrated the finest quality of leadership, dedication, and support of the Marine Corps Reserve. Nomination Procedure: The same as the National Award Criteria, except at the Chapter Level. Criteria for Selection: The same as the National Criteria. Selected By: The President of the Chapter in coordination with the Chapter Executive Council/Chapter officers. The awarding of this certificate does not require approval of the Board of Directors. Presented By: The Chapter President in an appropriate ceremony at a chapter event.
Chapter Certificate of Commendation A certificate signed by the Chapter President for individuals who have made significant contributions to the Chapter and in so doing have furthered the goals and objectives of the MCRA. Nomination Procedure: Chapter President and Chapter Executive Council consider those members who have made significant contributions to the chapter. Criteria for Selection: Determined by the Chapter President/Chapter Executive Council as applicable to service of a significant nature. Selected By: The Chapter President/Chapter Executive Council by reviewing the service and contributions of individuals to the Chapters. Presented By: The Chapter President in an appropriate ceremony at a chapter event.
Brigadier General Joseph L. Tiago Bowl Nomination Procedure: The MCRA District Councilor from each District must submit to the President of the MCRA by 15 March each year their recommendation(s) for the most outstanding chapter(s) in their District. The nomination will be in narrative form addressing the various criteria for selection and provide adequate detail to enable an accurate judgment. Criteria for Selection: Chapter involvement and success in such facets of MCRA activities, Membership gains: 100% MCRA membership in local SMCR and IRR units; Traditional events such as Dining-in, Mess Nights, Marine Corps Ball; Chapter events developing programs; Company Grade Officer participation; Assistance in increasing the positive image of the United States Marine Corps in the local chapter area; Support of Officer Selection programs OCS/PLS/NROTC; Recruiting assistance for USMC and USMCR; Support of MCJROTC programs; Participation in Armed Forces, Memorial, and Veterans Day Activities; Leadership in local Marine Corps Council activities; Support of Marine Corps Band appearances; Assistance to Marines and their families; Visitations to hospitalized Marines or Senior Citizens Marines; Participation in promotion, Change of Command, retirement, or funeral ceremonies. Selected By: The President of MCRA in coordination with the Awards Committee. Recommendations to be provided by the Board of Directors. Presented By: The President or his representative at the Grand Banquet at the National Military Conference.
Major General Jack M. Frisbie Chapter Membership Award An engraved plaque presented to the Chapter having the largest membership increase during the year. Nomination Procedure: Determined by the Chapter List/Active Membership report. Criteria for Selection: The percentage of membership increase from January to December. If the Chapter with the largest membership increase is awarded the Tiago Bowl, this award will then be presented to the chapter with the second largest percentage increase. Presented By: The President at the President's Luncheon at the National Military Conference.
Unit Leadership Award The Unit Leadership Award is a certificate signed by the President and Executive Director of MCRA and presented to SMCR and IRR units that have 100% of their members as active members of MCRA. Nomination Procedure: The Commanding Officer of the unit or his designated representative submits the station list of officers in the unit to National Headquarters. Criteria for Selection: All Reserve members in the unit must be current members of MCRA Presented By: The award certificate will be presented by the unit I&I and/or the commanding officer. |
